Equestrian land management

Our team of environmental scientists and chartered environmentalists can provide specialist advice on how to manage your land to benefit both the horse and nature.

Those engaged in land management are acutely aware of the real and year-round impacts of a changing climate. The evolving trend of wetter, warmer winters and hotter drier summers in the UK is causing serious challenges for those trying to manage our natural landscapes, and this includes the land used to graze horses.

Sustainable equestrian land management is essential for avoiding those dreaded muddy paddocks and flood conditions in the winter, or overgrazed, nutrient-deprived grasses and bare soils in the summer. Well-managed grasslands not only provide a healthier environment for horses to thrive but also have hugely significant potential for carbon sequestration and enhancing biodiversity in the UK

We offer a range of services aimed at supporting those in charge of managing land for horses, including research projects and educational resources. In the first instance, why not have us carry out a site visit where a look at your land management practices is included.

The UK has lost over 50% of its biodiversity nationally since 1970. Biodiversity is essential for a healthy ecosystem, but biodiverse grassland and hedgerows are also very beneficial to the horse’s gut health.
